A few months ago, I had the pleasure of working with the uber-talented design team behind The Sultaness, an incredible designer jewelry company founded by Nafiza Taj and Casey Hicks. Their designs include hand harnesses, hijab pins, brooches, face jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, you name it. But these are NOTHING like any pieces you have seen before. To say that The Sultaness is unique is an understatement - their line has revolutionized jewelry design by creating a niche all its own. There is no denying the signature aesthetic of design from this line - when it's 'The Sultaness', you will know.
Needless to say, I was flattered by their invitation to join the photoshoot team, as I have always admired their incredible designs and hard work ethic. They had teamed up with noted NYC photographer Domonick Gravine for a editorial fashion photoshoot (inspired by the gorgeous photos to the left) for 2 new lookbooks : "Decadence" - a luxurious, simplistic lookbook with a royal gold/black color palette inspired by their Showstopper face jewelry, and "Eastern Renaissance" - on fun, over-the-top, lookbook with shocking color inspired by the Bird of Paradise face jewelry. As the wardrobe stylist for the shoot, I took inspiration from their descriptions of the two lookbooks, packed items from my personal wardrobe, sewed up a few hijabs from The CMB Collection to complement the looks, and headed off to NYC for the shoot! Here are some action shots from behind the lens:
The final looks from the 'Decadence' Lookbook are PUBLISHED!! Here are some of our best shots! Watch this space for photos from the 'Eastern Renaissance' to be released later on this year.
